Troubleshooting

The 8th Wall desktop app is in Public Beta and there are some limitations compared to the full production web-based 8th Wall experience. Your feedback is appreciated and we have a dedicated support forum for the desktop app beta users–please report any issues you encounter or suggestions here.

Limitations

  • The desktop app is available for MacOS only at this time.
  • Project directories can not be hosted on an external server, they must use 8th Wall’s build and hosting process.

Known Issues

  • Currently switching clients while the simulator is running will cause the simulator to infinitely hang in the “Initializing” state. You can close the project and reopen it if you enter this state.
  • Externally shared projects cannot be updated locally and are not currently selectable within the desktop app. Learn more about external project sharing here.
  • Currently projects cannot be set up or opened locally if the name of the project matches an existing project that was previously set up. This scenario may happen if you are a member of multiple workspaces with different projects that share the same name.
  • Modifying asset bundles is not supported at this time.
  • Compiled with problems / typescript errors.

Reload & Toggle Developer Tools

Like the web version of Studio, you can reload the page and access web-based developer tools. To do this on Studio desktop, you can navigate to the View menu or use keyboard shortcuts.

Compiled with Problems

Studio’s Simulator on web ignores certain types of typescript errors and blocks them from appearing on the Simulator view. The Simulator on the desktop app which runs on your local host functions differently. You might see red typescript errors on the Simulator view when you first clone or build your studio project locally.

If you want to ignore these types of errors, you can use the tsconfig.json file within the project. Under compilerOptions, you can set "strict": false instead of true, save the file, exit the Studio editor and reopen your project.
