Using 8th Wall’s Visual Positioning System (VPS), the experience anchors eco-themed notes around the physical object. These notes offer real, practical suggestions — from using less plastic to choosing public transport.
Visitors aren’t just readers — they become contributors. By tapping empty points around the Earth, users can create their own note, choose a style, and submit it via a virtual keyboard. Notes are saved live through a custom backend powered by Node.js, Express.js, and MongoDB.
🎯 Goal: To inspire sustainable thinking through collaborative AR. Save Earth Notes invites users to reflect, share, and co-create a space full of climate-positive ideas.
⚙️ Technical Overview: Save Earth Notes is a WebAR installation powered by 8th Wall VPS and a custom cloud-connected backend, transforming a static object into a living, collaborative storytelling experience.
🔧 Core Technologies Used:
- 8th Wall VPS – anchors digital notes to specific areas around the real-world object.
- Custom WebAR UI – virtual keyboard and text style options for note creation.
- RESTful API Integration – POST and GET requests to handle live note submission and retrieval.
- Node.js + Express.js Backend – powers the data flow and stores user content.
- MongoDB – scalable database for storing notes, positions, and styles.
🌍 Real-World Integration: Users walk around a real-world sculpture of the Earth and discover notes shared by others or add their own. Each note stays anchored in space for future users, creating a growing, location-based AR memory shaped by collective climate awareness.
